Hallo AB,

Welcome to the thread.

I agree with you and have heard this IDSN argument before. I do though think there are two different scenarios that would open the doors for significant DSL deployment in Germany.

The first has to do with pricing. DT could protect their current ISDSN investment if they charged by bandwidth services. Forcing the customers to pay more for the higher bandwidth. In other words creative pricing of the different services.

The second is a much longer term solution and threat to DT's profits and investments. What I am saying is it is only a matter of time before the completion of the deregulation process. I am hoping this opens up the copper rights to free competition. (If it does not then DT has complete monopoly, and nobody will ever be able to compete in Germany with DT) Once/If this happens cutthroat competition will drive the prices down to more reasonable rates, forcing demand to implement the services. Bye Bye IDSN. (Dereg should be complete I think by 1999)

Do you know any further details concerning the specifics of this dereg process??? I am under the impression that others will be able to gain access rights to the copper if they want it. Do you know for sure?

BTW - You seem to know what you are talking about in this part of the world. Are you keeping up on things just for hobby, or are you in the business professionally?

Just curious,
Eric
