Don't think anything yet. Haven't seen them! Haven't worn them! I think that Oakley is feeling desperate to be doing this however. The sunglass biz is slowing down these days and they are hurting from it. The shoe fad is fading and will continue to do so as other trends become hot. What shoe technology is going to blow the average consumer away? Who knows, maybe the shoe will be a hit, but I have serious doubts. $12 a share may look low, but with their lousy earnings, their P/E is 30, pretty high! I talked to a retailer at a high end sunglass store over the past weekend, and she said the X-metals were hot when they first came out, and were selling for $325, but sales have slowed dramatically. Originally, they couldn't keep them on the shelves, now they can't sell them for $250. Also, they haven't sold one single pair of the new "TOPCOATS" that recently came out. And after looking at them, and trying them on, I see why. Terrible design(I personally think they look cheesy!) and poor eye coverage(see for yourself). It will be interesting to see what happens in the months to come................ |
