With some computers moving the mouse or hitting a key does not bring it out of sleep or standby but others do and this second case encourages shut-down. Also, some computers have a flashing light in sleep or standby which seems to encourage shut-down.

With Win95 I could go a week without a re-boot unless I hit web pages that bombarded with frames or unless I was text editing and running large software files.
