January 17, 2005 NEWS RELEASE Trading Symbols: TSX-V.ATH Thorsby Area Wells Achieve Commercial Production Athlone Minerals Ltd. (TSX-V.ATH) is pleased to announce commercial gas production from two wells in the Thorsby area, Alberta. One well was put on production eight weeks ago and is producing 350 thousand cubic feet per day (350 mcfd) gas and 20 barrels of oil per day (20 bopd). The second well was put on production five weeks ago and is currently producing 220 mcfd gas. Athlone has a 20% working interest in both wells. On behalf of the Board ATHLONE MINERALS LTD. "Paul S.
