You're comparing apples and oranges.

Both Radisys and WIND are dependent upon outsourcing. But with an RTOS, once you've made the move, it's extremely unlikely that you'll pull your next RTOS back in house. It would make no sense from either a "time to market" viewpoint, or immediate economics. On the other hand, it's much simpler to pull your next system in house.

Hardware has always been less of a "black art" than software. Engineering managers love to buy their way out of a software problem. Not so with full systems. That's where that feel challenged.
