I thought it was very interesting. There is a tension between motherhood and work in today's complex world that has not been part of our social evolution for very long (imo). If you look at primitive societies, children are with their (usually same sex) parents, absorbing cultural, family and work related norms all at the same time. Our society has fractured the worlds of family, work and culture (imo). Work is something children do not "see", and which their parents disappear to do (if they have working parents); culture often comes from outside the home and is imposed via television/music/movies and peer group; family time is often so minimal it has little impact on the young, when compared to the cultural impact of television/music/movies and peer group.

I think society needs to make sacrifices to be healthy- and some of the sacrifices need to be made to make sure children are supervised by good parents, or by people who care enough to function at the very high level a good parent would function at. I think many other changes need to be made, but it's late, and I'm sure we'll end of talking about them all some day.
