SAP Expands Leadership in the Aerospace and Defense Industry With New Contracts for AlliedSignal and Raytheon
PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 2, 1997--
-- Introduces SAP Aerospace & Defense, a Comprehensive
Industry Solution --
SAP America Inc., the leading provider of client/server enterprise application software, continues to gain market leadership in the aerospace and defense industry with the introduction of a new aerospace and defense solution and the announcement of major contracts with AlliedSignal and Raytheon Co.
The industry solution, SAP Aerospace & Defense(TM), takes advantage of the flexible SAP Business Framework(TM) architecture to integrate defense-specific functionality, commercial-sector best business practices, and process and information management tools provided in the R/3(TM) System. As a result, SAP provides aerospace and defense customers with the most comprehensive enterprise applications solution that combines SAP and third-party products in an agile, component-based architecture.
SAP Aerospace & Defense strengthens and enhances the SAP solution for the aerospace and defense industry by providing industry-specific functionality such as cross-contract planning and pegging, cost reimbursable and progress billing, and integrated C/SCSC reporting. It also ensures compliance with government regulations, including the Materials Management and Accounting Systems (MMAS) Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Department of Defense Federal Acquisition Regulations (DFAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
New Customers Solidify SAP Leadership as Aerospace and Defense Industry Supplier
``These new contracts add to our significant list of more than 50 aerospace and defense customers, including the majority of suppliers to one of the leading aircraft manufacturers,'' said Jeremy Coote, president of SAP America. ``As a result, our solution and customer base of manufacturers and suppliers position SAP as the leading end-to-end supply-chain provider to the aerospace and defense industry.''

AlliedSignal Chooses R/3 as a Key Component in Implementing Its Premier Business Strategy
``AlliedSignal is making R/3 a key part of our Premier Business Strategy to bring our business up to premier, world-class status,'' said Lawrence Bossidy, chairman and CEO of AlliedSignal.
The company plans to have several thousand users on R/3 by next year, with more than 15,000 users on the software when the global installation is complete. Initial installations are already complete in some of AlliedSignal's European facilities. The company is using the full suite of R/3 applications, including Financial Accounting, Treasury and Cash Management, Materials Management, Production Planning, Sales and Distribution, and Plant Maintenance.
AlliedSignal is an advanced technology and manufacturing company serving customers worldwide with aerospace and automotive products, chemicals, fibers, plastics and advanced materials. The company has more than 76,000 employees. Its 1996 revenues were approximately $14 billion.
Raytheon Credits the Flexibility of R/3 for Contract With SAP
``Raytheon chose SAP after bringing together the requirements of our various business units, which range from defense electronics and aircraft to engineering and construction,'' said Fred Hembrough, corporate ERP manager at Raytheon. ``We needed an off-the-shelf, integrated system that was flexible enough to meet the individual industry requirements. In particular, aerospace and defense requirements needed to be met, and it was SAP's commitment to the industry and its recent development progress that convinced us. Our first implementation is under way at Raytheon E-Systems in Greenville, Texas.''
Raytheon, headquartered in Lexington, Mass., is an international high-technology company that operates in four business areas: commercial and defense electronics, engineering and construction, aircraft, and major appliances. The company had sales of $12.3 billion in 1996. Raytheon celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
