Archipelago ahead in race for early trades - FT

The FT reports that the NYSE may be considering opening earlier in the morning to capture business from Europe, but one of its smaller rivals, Archipelago, plans to do just that as soon as March. Archipelago is working on a plan to open at 4 AM ET in the US, in a bid to gain from capital flows from Europe and eventually become a "24-hour equity platform", according to its president, Mike Cormack. It will offer all Nasdaq, AMEX and NYSE-listed stocks. "We want to be the global destination for US equities trading. If expanding hours helps us in the pursuit of that, we will continue to widen the window," he says.
