As it was his personal assessment (and the job of President is largely political), I don't think that such a wide sweeping statement is entirely scientific and a response like the one you post is to be expected. Is it your thesis that he is correct, or that the science may support it, or that he shouldn't be subject to politics?

I know many, many women that are good at science and it is probably best for the University President to keep his mouth shut on the matter. There is already a process that determines which candidates succeed and which don't. Educational institutions don't need Monday-night quarterbacking from the President.

It would be like the ref saying before a game, "You know, the 49ers tend to foul less often than Green Bay." The position is supposed to be neutral and objective. I have seen studies of brain anatomy and testing that suggest that some times of cognitive skills are more common in men than women. I think this is in the category of saying such things about blacks (negatively) or Asians (positively). Without actually conducting potentially unethical experiments, it is conjecture. It may even be true, but coincidental or due to complex effects. Regardless, it is a minefield and a person holding a political academic position should be circumspect regarding such statements.
