IMHO, you are confusing cause and effect. The effect of Jewish migration was colonial. The cause was indeed desperate necessity.

If you ever get a chance, read the history of the Bantu tribes in S. Africa around 1800. The rise of the Zulu nation caused colossal displacement of adjacent tribes, forcing them to migrate and displace their own neighbors in ever widening circles until the shattered remnants collided with advancing europeans coming up from the coastal south. It is estimated that 2 million Bantu died in those years. When the Boers (Dutch) migrated inland, large tracks of land had only bones, no inhabitants. The Zulu nation itself was still very powerful however. Necessity drove each tribe to fall on their neighbors and drive then further out, but that does not in anyway reduce the disaster for those on the receiving end.
