About that dell boo hiss. Could you be more specific about what they will and won't do?

There are some other possibilities. If there is a university near you, contact the computer science department and ask if a "PC expert"(aka starving student) could use a little cash doing some hard/software installs. Student newspapers are also a good source and placing the ads is often free. High schools even could do if you could get a recomendation from a teacher.

I'd offer to help over the phone, but I've done that before and it's tough. Plus, you sound very less than enthused about srewdriver wielding.
