They basically told them, `If you're not strong enough to show up for the war, so to speak, then don't show up for the peace and forget about the contracts.' And I think that was basically a `cutting off our nose to spite our face' sort of response that haunts us to this day. I think where it puts us now in terms of not being able to draw on external powers to help us stabilize the region is that we face some very difficult choices with local powers there that we're going to have to get some sort of ownership or buy-in from in order to stabilize Iraq.


Man, what is he smoking? None of the so-called allies who wanted no part of the war would be of any use stabilizing the country. They only want to join in and claim the credit after all the fighting is done.
