I thought it implicit in your previous post:

"benefits of human cultural evolution" I'd use the phrase human cultural advance. When I think of those who have aided that, I think of one who just had a birthday and note he was - how about that? - a clergyman. And I think also of this country's founding fathers - some of whom were deists, of course - but none of whom as far as I know were bereft of any faith at all. Then there was Lincoln, rumored to have been an unbeliever among many other things, but whose public speeches - just heard his second inauguaral address read tonight - certainly sounded like a believer's.

Perhaps there have been some great agnostics who have pulled human culture forward in a postive direction, just can't think of any right now.
