But, a 'Jewish state'? ... for that you'd have needed terra nulla somewhere, a 'land without a people', and there weren't any of those by the forties, not in Europe or in the Americas or in the Orient ... and i think you have to question the concept anyway, as it is an exclusivist nationalism based on religion and/or ethnicity [take your pick, the choice is debated], rather than a more broadly based civic form, at least striving to be inclusive of the species at large
My reason for a european Jewish state is it was europeans that caused the Holocaust, not the Pals. Therefore carving out some space from those most responsible seems more reasonable. IMO, it was not just the fault of the Germans either, many europeans were guilty of at least turning a blind eye. Even somewhat the case for the USA, but I don't care to argue the point.
Plus, most of the Jews were dispersed through europe as well.
I agree wrt to the exclusivity of Israel. I don't like it one bit. In fact, I often wonder why the world didn't support a white state is southern Africa, if we are going to back ethnic states elsewhere. Whites in S. Africa date back almost 400 years in the Cape region. I don't like racial or ethnic exclusivity in general, but Africa is an interesting place to examine the issue. Racial problems within Black Africa are well known, at a cost of far more lives then the ME, but little is done about it. |
