The Honda accord conventional engines are a choice of 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines.

The 6 cylinder gets much worse gas mileage. IMO a 6 is unnecessary since the 4 has plenty of power.

What Honda decided to do was to make the hybrid a souped up version of the six cylinder. The hybrid has more power than the six cylinder. The hybrid has worse mileage than the 4 cylinder conventional engine.

Honda decided that the best marketing strategy was to get use the hybrid to make a high performance car instead of a high mileage car. From a business decision it was probably a very smart move.

To me, it is a waste of technology. The greater power is just to satisfied someones ego.

To me, that problem can be very well solved with gasoline that costs 3 or 4 $/gallon.

Hydrogen cars are not a solution. At least not for another 10 years, if then.
