I let this pass by without comment yesterday - "Scientists are almost Gods themselves now, or perhaps they are Gods. As Oppenheimer said "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds. " If that isn't a Godlike ability, what is?"

Oppenheimer and his fellows, of course, were simply very highly skilled technicians, comparable to forebears with names like Gatling, Colt, or Kalashnikov or even to that anonymous caveman long ago who first chipped a sharp rock to put on the tip of a spear. No gods there.
