If money = class, I suppose you have a point, but I think of class as not having a strong correlation with money
It's the polish you get from a good education combined with a moneyed social BG. You can get it without being rich if you grow up with that crowd. Jackie's father was a drunken bum, but she was raised in that environment. It shows up in small social "do's" and "don'ts." She knew how to handle herself in any environment. Where is really shows up is that, without it, you are awkward with people who serve you.
Yes, I know there are lots of exceptions, but that is where it comes from.
The sexual part of it comes from the British upper class. You can fool around before marriage, but until you have had your family you stay true to your husband. After that, you can fool around again. And you marry money. Jackie was born to be on a rich man's yacht.
BTW, I saw an example of low-class behavior from the blond Bush daughter today. She sat in the reviewing stand putting on lipgloss while she watched the parade. They had a mini-cam on her, and it went out. Her Father looked over and noticed it, pointed to the mini-cam with clenched teeth, and muttered a reprimand. I am sure her mother, and I KNOW her grandmother, would have a fit over it.
Unfortunately, applying makeup in public is typical of twenty-somethings today. Part of the coarsening of our Society. |
