Wonderfully stated. Each person is a colony not an individual- without bacteria we could not process what sustains us. Evolution has incorporated a blind design -- I just read what makes mad cow disease might also make us retain our memory.(prions) I am in the cheerleading section not fully understanding the intricacy of science down below on the playing field. I am rooting for all of you rather than having hopes and dreams in an arcane belief system that controls society. Enjoy everyday. Learn- I learn more in these days than my time in school-- we are just starting to give average everyday folk like myself the ability to expand almost freely their horizon. Even a decade ago the talk we have now would be on a very small scale, there is evolution in our social conscious. The more we know the less we harbor doubt and superstition - and yet since I am railing for education reform, I know that experience beats idealism constantly. The setbacks are only a matter of time. In the quantitative world we can only qualify a tiny portion and rely on instinct, intuition, hope and emotions to guide us with the rest. So in a way no matter who we say we think we are, we are no better than the social tribesman trying to make a better life for his/her family in a closed social, economic circle in the middle of what ever might be foreign to us.
If it isn't SARS or HIV or this flu, something else will take its place including our own righteousness and stupidity which would eliminate a percentage of population without judging the quality of the individual, the numbers is all that matters. (Sustaining quantitatively) When it is so that this world would be without humans, the world would go on existing. Even when the sun expands and takes this planet, the elements go on creating another entity. This is a beautiful place and time to be in- too bad we cannot convey it to all to see that we have more things in common than in disagreement. Break it down to a molecular level, we are just soup still brewing.
Reminds me of my dad, he's getting up there but everyday he is outside in his beautiful immaculate yard. He doesn't see the beauty in the flowers my mom loves to show, he is looking for that weed, the ones most natural or virile, that diminishes his little world.
And I do read about and discuss rapidly, readily spreading avian flu and the implications of integrating vertically as well as horizontally those mutations, the worst fear is of course migratory patterns of animals including us which is the means to disaster. How many diseases were given that path and until it occurs the reaction to enable control becomes a reality, either rationally (science and medicine) or irrationally (belief and superstition)-- who's left will go on and archeologists later will be examining the fragments and agreeing 'if' they only did this or that would all of the pain and suffering could of been minimized or avoided.
We see it everyday when our little world gets a weed. |
