The enterprise that owned the SI property was not purchased, only specified assets.

What contract? This has been covered before, but it's worth asking again: Where was it ever promised that anyone would be provided extended and new features forever at no charge? I've been a member here since 1996 and don't recall any such offer or promise.

Even if such an offer was made, it was made by a previous business entity, it would not be binding on this one. As Bob explained previously, he could have bought SI, shut down the servers, and just put a redirect to iHub, with or without any grandfathered conditions to SI members.
