Your query concerning forestalling the "predicted recession" is interesting. I'm not sure it has been forestalled. Could this "forestalling" be sort of a "dead-cat" situation, which is more serious that it appears considering the weakening dollar against almost all other currency? Is the "booming economy" a delusional denial of economic reality? "Control-option" tweaks -- tariffs, taxation, currency devaluation, etc. -- do not portend a rosy economy considering the enormous trade imbalance. All these alleged variables can be manipulated, and muddle predictability in a temporal sense, but in the end, the result will be unchanged. The underlying question is how to deal with all this and survive on the personal investment level. Gold is one strategy. IMHO
