The author was not an economist or a scientist so it seems you have made her opinion more credible because of an appeal to authority (she's a professor, but not in math, science or economics, which last I checked, isn't a science at all because it isn't usually experimentally verifiable. Granted it tries.) Do the words "dismal science" have a familiar ring? They should. In real science, I don't have to refute a positive statement made by others. Maybe economists have gotten away with this and this suggests you have no training in science. Example: I say Pink Space Bunnies control the White House It is not ad hominem to point out I haven't been to the White House and you don't have the burden of refuting my claim. If I make a positive statement, then it is MY burden to provide evidence, not yours.
