"Children need to develop their own internal moral compass, not depend on whether their parents approve or disapprove of their behavior."

I can only suggest that you read up on developmental psychology, as you are bainfully ignorant on this subject. For starters, healthy children do not even begin to develop an independent moral foundation until middle school age. That is a very unstable time in which they need more support than ever from healthy peer groups and parents. It takes the rest of their youth to sort out what will be kept in adulthood from parental foundation vs peer group exploration into the ideas. The result is a combination but it is the norm for an adult to be largely represented by the moral guidance of parents.
