Interroute - BT- SONS connection? While doing some digging and perusing Interroute's website, I came across this.
Please note the date, and the fact it was a multiyear deal:
"INTEROUTE TO EXTEND GLOBAL NETWORK FOR INFONET SERVICES CORPORATION"
Multi-Year Agreement Gives Infonet a Larger European Footprint, and Additional Connectivity Options
London, UK, 17 September 2004 ?Interoute, owner and operator of Europe? largest and most densely connected voice and data network, announced today that it has extended the scope of its existing contract with global communications provider Infonet Services Corporation (NYSE: IN).
Under the terms of this new enhanced agreement, Interoute will provide Infonet with additional European infrastructure to enable it to deliver enhanced managed network services across a wider European footprint.
?nteroute? flexibility, their history of timely delivery of services for us, as well as the technical features of its network made it easy for us to extend our relationship with them,?said Jeremy Amen, Vice President of Integration and Provisioning for Infonet.
?e look for the Interoute network to continue to provide us with cost-effective solutions and world-class technical support as we expand into new geographies and market segments.?
Jay Belodoff, Vice President of Americas for Interoute said: ?nteroute is very pleased to be extending this relationship with Infonet. It underscores that the fundamentals of business still apply to telecommunications ?deliver a high-quality service to customers when it is needed, maintain a strong relationship and react to the needs of those customers and business that will continue to flourish.?
Well one month later, in Oct. Interroute signed their deal with Sonus.
But one month later, in DEC. BT gets U.S. Antitrust clearence to buy buy Infonet!

"BT buy of Infonet gets US antitrust clearance , 12.23.04, 12:39 PM ET
AFX News Limited
LONDON (AFX) - BT Group PLC said US antitrust authorities have cleared its acquisition of Infonet, the provider of managed voice and data network services.
"The US antitrust authorities notified BT that they have granted early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino 30-day waiting period, are not seeking any additional information and will therefore raise no antitrust objection to the transaction," the company said.
The acquisition is expected to receive clearance from a number of other agencies, including the European Commission, and is scheduled to complete in the first half of 2005, BT said."
This might mean:
1. That Interroute signed the Sonus deal to help it service the Infonet deal.
2. When the BT/Infonet deal is closed, this means that in effect, SONS will be a BT supplier, through Interroute.
BTW, if you look on the Interroute site and launch the interactive network link, (lower left hand side of Interroutes front page), and then click on their IP network link, you'll see all of Interoutes IP network that, as I said, shows Interoute already serves the UK and even has a network tie back the the US!
Bottomline, it appears that SONS has a chance to get in on lucrative BT's 21st Century Network bonanza, thru their Marconi agreement, and will also be able to get some additional revenues from BT via SONS deal with Interroute, whose has a multi-year agreement with Infonet, which BT is buying.
