EPS Contest

Some contest housekeeping stuff you may or may not be interested in...

WEB STATS

I've put up the web stats for this last contest for any of you that are interested. Shows country, browser, OS and screen resolution. These are based on page hits and not unique visitors, so if you sorted on a page 5 times that will show up as 5 page hits. Not as cool as unique visitor stats would be, but still useful and interesting.

Not quite as much international variety as last quarter, but still a good spectrum of visitors. I think we had quite a few last quarter that popped in to look at the cc transcripts, but I haven't gotten a transcript to host for this quarter. If anyone wants to send one my way my e-mail address it at the bottom of all of the contest web pages.

RULE CHANGES FOR NEXT QUARTER

For the NEXT contest (05Q1) I am thinking about the following changes:

ITEM 1. Remove all language about including/excluding charges for EPS and simply go with whatever number each company reports under diluted EPS in their earnings release.

This would be much simpler to moderate from my perspective. The downside is that there will undoubtedly be some unanticipated one-time charges/gains that we won't be able to exclude (like we've done in 4 past contests), meaning that the EPS category will be much more lottery-like than quasi-predictable. However, since it is a very clear cut, black and white way of doing things, I'm okay with that. And besides, it is only one out of five contest categories. I think tgp was recommending this method.

If we go with this method, I would be inclined to use the actual rounded number reported by each company (i.e. to the nearest cent) rather than calculating it mathematically without rounding as we do now (FWIW).

ITEM 2. I was going to suggest changing the category containing Intel's ICG revenue over to Intel Flash revenue. I was thinking they've been reporting it long enough that we could assume it will be an ongoing publicly reported number. However, does the reorganization throw a wrinkle into this whole thing? Anybody with knowledge on the issue please comment.

ARCHIVED LATEST CONTEST

The latest contest data is now archived. All prior links should still work, you'll just be redirected to the archive location. If anything doesn't work please let me know.
