"If it part of a clone kill campaign, as Jobs has hinted, it will indeed hurt Apple. What cares Jobs, he has money and a distorted world view. Bad karma here."

Well, let's see. Apple has bought some market share. They've bought some direct marketing expertise and some quality engineering talent. If they continue to keep Power as a semi-autonomous entity, they've bought the ability to rapidly cash-in on new technological breakthroughs that the parent company, Apple, can't exploit right away. Consequently, Apple could become a lot more nimble.

Some so-called experts are already complaining that Apple will now keep prices high because of reduced competition. I doubt it. Apple needs to grow its market share and to do that it will need to compete on price/performance with the PC makers too.

I'll believe that Jobs is serious about shutting-down the clones for good when I hear that "Rhapsody-for-Intel" work has ceased. It hasn't, so he's not.
