If the politics of the US was Left versus Right I would agree with this completely -- but it isn't. Bush has moved so far to the right that the worst thing the Dems could do is redefine themselves in terms of the Left at all. The politics of the US has become the Right versus the Center. Bush scared enough in the center and all of the Right which was enough to squeak by with victory. But the Center will not stay asleep forever and the Dems need to tap the Center if they are going to gain any traction.
