Perhaps Roly Poly Powell Jr wasn't radical and greedy enough for the job. It's entirely possible that the replacement will be much, much worse.

The political strategy is this: nominate enough radical and horrendous judges, bureaucrats, politicos, etc. so that the Dems HAVE to give up and compromise on some of them. They can't nix all of them and they're the opposition party anyway so they really CAN'T nix all of them.

The big fight, because it's more permanent, are the judiciary positions. Rice is a no-show in the competence department and everyone knows she's Bush's other wife so people know what State will be like ---- imagine, she really wanted Rummys job --- given that she has ZERO experience and ZERO ability it's astonishing that she can be that arrogant.
