Likewise, few have the minds to be really good at creating literature, music, art, architecture, political and economic theories, theories of social behavior, methods of (effectively) educating our children, etc. Few are also really good at creating a fine piece of furniture or a fine wine. Few can lead a nation out of bigotry and intolerance (MLK), or through an unpopular, bloody, but necessary war (Lincoln). And few can pen a socio-political philosophy that leads to the creation of a nation as free and strong as ours (Locke). There are lots of very gifted people in a lot of different fields. Even business. But they are no more divine than the lowly street sweeper, garbage collector or insurance saleman and no less so than the best mathematician, physicist, chemist or biologist. All have different abilities and different interests, but it is the height of arrogance to think any of them inherently better - or "godlike". In fact, I'm sure there are just as many, proportionally speaking, in your revered scientist class who are completely unworthy of reverence as in any other class. |
