AP right here on SI claimed in public that he never ever covered into his own short calls:

Certainly if he did the opposite of that on a consistent and deceptive basis it would be the definition of front-running. It might well be that the government presented trading records at the trial as proof, but you wouldn't know it from any published news accounts. All we have is Hansen saying he thought so, sort of, kind of, maybe. Normally front-running is a civil offense, so perhaps it was only touched on with the intent of presenting a multitude of illicit activities in order to show a criminal pattern.
