It is very important that Abbas reign in Hamas and the others. It is also very important that Hamas has an epiphany, not only that the terror has been counterproductive but that it is inherently immoral, particularly the terror directed at civilians. Also as you point out, the quartet wants this to end, big time and is willing to pay off everyone to get it done. They see the end of the mideast war as the beginning of the end of international terrorism. Perhaps it becomes some sort of a template for iraq settlement next year. As you can see i try to be hopeful. Also George Friedman had an interesting article in the NYPOST today about how post election iraqs civil war takes a decidedly different turn as the shiaa militias along with the pashmerga, with new govt blessing, go after the baathists and sunni terrorists. mike
