How ironic that it now looks like they have a chance to bring about the best Israeli/Pal accord ever. Of course if they do, he will never admit it. It will just grate on him.

If they do, he'll never admit that it shows that Arafat was the sticking point preventing a deal before, though it should be obvious to everybody. But I don't think there will be an accord. Abbas is too weak, Sharon doesn't want to give more than an interim deal to someone who cannot answer for his side. Abbas' best bet is to look like a real reformer and a real ruler; that would be such a stunning contrast with Arafat that he wouldn't have to do much before all the pressure started switching to Sharon again.

But then, that assumes the other Pals would have brains enough to go along with the show, and they've usually proved themselves dumber and more murderous than that.
