Another interesting line from the Peter Baker article:

"Most of our side was trying to explain the politics, how it was difficult to do," the official said. But Bush "waved his hands and said, 'I don't understand this. Are you saying that if you got up and said this is necessary for the defense of Canada it wouldn't be accepted?' "

Yeah, well, that's just it. If our PM stood up and said something like that to "us", we'd be kicking his sorry butt all the way down Wellington Street. One thing that doesn't play well to Canadians is a pompous, arrogant politician. If a politician acts that way up here, he/she is burnt toast.
