Mary,

bogus research should not be funded

I guess your ok as long as you get to use your belief systems to determine and define 'bogus'.

A study on gender differences in brain function should be a clear winner. A study trying to prove anything should not.

PC environments do not help getting real science done.

For example - plenty of drugs exist for women only - even when they are not directly related to sex or sex organs. Should we stop this research? It seems to indicate that we are different.

Why do these discussions of studies always focus on areas men do better in? When the same study shows inherent superiority in an area for women its unchallenged. Back before this became an area that can no longer be discussed I remember a study pointing out that women make better doctors and have superior dexterity for vascular and other types of micro-surgery (it was attacked because it showed men made better orthopedic surgeons).

Now on the issue of studying racial differences - I am for studying cultural and other differences, but am very much against its political use to put down any specific population. Its use should be to direct resources towards the common good and providing equal opportunity (not equal outcome).

For example - if asian-heritage or jewish-heritage americans were shown to be superior performers (on average) because of their cultural interest and promotion of education, wouldn't it be good for the rest of us to learn from that?

What part of the differences is cultural, diet or inherent? We will never know if its impossible to even ask the questions.

John
