in the past, the fundamentals kept me in trades I should have been out of.

IMO many long term buy and hold investors could make this same statement. I know that I have held a stock that I thought would return to a higher level, just as I've held a stock with a very large "paper profit" that I haven't taken because I didn't want to deal with the tax consequences of a short term capital gain.

And that's why 80% of fund managers and 95% of retail investors underperform the markets. They can't overcome the drawdowns they take when they hold long term.

I think that performance would have to be determined by what is considered a "long term" hold....3-5 years, 10-20 years...or the last 50-70 years?

Many people consider the tax consequences of selling when they hold stocks that aren't in an IRA account. Many IMO also don't have the time and the interest needed to trade in and out of a specific stock. As you mentioned, the benefits of buying and holding stocks "work" for some...just as trading works for others.

Your posts have been tremendously helpful to me, as well as many others IMO who attempt to either do short term trading, or do some combination of trading as well as investing longer term, as a buy and hold investor.

Thanks for your posts Dabum, and for taking the time to explain how you choose specific stocks that make the Dabum stock screen!
