Thomas Sowell, a conservative academic, comes at this with an ideology. Where is the proof about government intervention? Government - them thar's just us. Government is simply us being social and sociable in order to make more of the total than the sum of the parts.

I don't understand why people who say they dislike government simply don't:

1. Move to a country where government is nonexistent, in a state of flux or very weak, say, Afghanistan's hinterlands.

2. Get the heck off the public grid.

In other words, have the courage of your convictions and stop using the following (short list):

- public infrastructure: roads, bridges, skies, internet, phones, media, parks, courthouses, libraries, etc.

- public services: police, fire, dog catcher, road crews, prisons, etc.

- public market services and infrastructure: money, stock and bond markets, contracts, courts, patents & trademarks, etc.

==== Libertarians make me laugh. They don't really want freedom from government, they just want to pick and choose whatever suits them for the day. They want to be able to use slips of paper in exchange for products and services but also want to own bazookas and tanks to put in their front lawn.

==== Don't throw the baby out. If class action lawsuits are enriching lawyers at the expense of their clients, fix 'em. Don't cap (which is not very libertarian or market driven) AWARDS.

==== Bush et al are not market driven by any stretch of the imagination. They're fascists. They aren't reducing the power of government (see the deficit lately?) they're using the power of government to enrich themselves.

Government has rarely been stronger, more expensive or more intrusive than it is under Bush.
