Cosmicforce, is Teflon really all that useful? I mean are there not other substances that could substitute for almost all of Teflon's uses, without being so toxic?

Someone I know told me it is common knowledge among people who keep birds that Teflon is quite poisonous to them, for example, and that is is unadvisable to have Teflon in any form in your house if you have birds.

Do people really need non-stick pans and kitchen utensils enough to justify cancer and birth defects as the result?

Having said all that, is it Dupont's deception that really offends me. If a product causes cancer and birth defects and that information is hidden to make huge profits, it seems really immoral to me. Business, not science at all.
