Well, don't be too concerned about us having similar opinions. I think it happens more often than most people understand, because I think most people are a huge mishmash of rightist, leftist, and moderate beliefs all swirled up in some sort of big mess!!! And I personally would identify most of my positions as moderate, not liberal, anyway (I know there are people who disagree with that, who are rolling around on the floor laughing right now).
I even agreed with JLAllen on several occasions. As he said about that, Holy Guacamole!
Women did indeed die having abortions before abortions were legal. Rich women have always had reproductive choice--they could travel to get safe abortions if necessary. Poor women are typically the ones who died having back alley abortions. This doesn't seem fair to me. And I wish neglected and abused children were protected by society and removed from their homes as soon as it became clear it was not a healthy situation, but sadly the state is usually unwilling to act until too much damage has been done. And when they are removed they most often end up in foster care, another child abuse system if ever there was one. It is very difficult for a child who has suffered neglect or abuse to have a really happy, healthy life without early and expensive therapeutic intervention. Not something American taxpayers are dying to pay for. These are the children who end up being our alcoholics, drug addicts, prostitutes, criminals. In fact, there was a very controversial but interesting discussion recently in the news about how the crime rate is down significantly in America at exactly the time the first group of legally aborted fetuses would have been of the right age group to commit them, had they been born. This is such a confusing issue. |
