Concerted effort to expand US imperialism under the cloak of "spreading democracy". It's US last stand to curb the spread of wealth and prosperity around the world. What a hoax!, but majority of Americans are imbued by it. EU will not go along with it and neither does South America with Brazil in the lead. But there are many who are on US foreign welfare program, and US still has financial clout for another 20 years or so.
