Sen. Olympia Snowe: "I'm certainly not going to support diverting $2 trillion from Social Security into creating personal savings accounts."

Thomas, if SS is not in a "crisis," then I'd love to see you try and suggest increasing the SS tax or decreasing benefits. What words would you choose to try and sell either one of those bitter remedies (or both) to your constituents?

And Snowe, you've been supporting the diversion of $1.5T from Social Security's "trust fund" toward general expenditures just by the nature of you saying nothing. Is that the real reason you don't support an additional "diversion" of $2 trillion for partial privatization, or is it more basic, like fearing for your own re-election?
