I think you got a point but Intel did also run 130nm on 300 mm substrates or am I mistaken?
(the old 200mm CPU fabs are being converted to flash - as far as I understand Intel 90nm flash is even using copper);
IMHO die size issues were one driver for Intel to push 300 mm wafers years ago.
