think you're being sidetracked by an assumption that, if we studied brain wiring, we'd find that everyone with a penis has one kind of brain wiring and everyone with a uterus another but that's not necessarily the case. There's no reason to expect it to be so binary.
Exactly wrong.
What I assume is that "they", the ones who make social policy, will decide that males are wired one way and females wired another, on the basis of averages, instead of individual abilities.
I don't think group averages matter in the least. Only individuals matter.
I don't care whether scientific research might show that on average whites tend to be smarter than blacks, or Asians tend to be smarter than whites, or Jews tend to be smarter than whites. There is zero reason, ethically, or any other way I can see, to lump all whites together, all Asians together, all Jews together.
I can't think of an ethical way to study whether Protestants are smarter than Catholics, or whether Lutherans are smarter than Presbyterians.
I can't think of an ethical way to study whether blue eyed blondes are smarter than brown eyed blondes, or vice versa. And why would you want to?
History tells us that the reason people study these things is because they want to prove that they, themselves, are superior beings, based on the group that they belong to.
But they sugar coat it by saying, "well, wouldn't it be kinder to blacks/women/inferior beings to not subject them to the harsher standards that we have for whites/males/superior beings? Shouldn't we treat them differently and hope that somehow they will benefit from special treatment?" |
