I do not use any kind of harsh, polluting detergent to wash my pots and pans. I use the most environmentally acceptable liquid from the natural foods store. And I don't use a dishwasher. (I used to have a dishwasher, but she grew up and moved into an apartment!) I scrub pots and pans really hard, use hot water, and really don't have much of a problem getting them clean (unless I am so engrossed by the wonderful and compelling Feelies thread that whatever I am cooking burns to a crisp on the stove). That is a difficult clean-up job.

I think I understand your argument, but admit to being of Luddite sensibilities in most areas of my life (the computer being a notable exception). I understand that vaccinations cause some problems in certain people but are good for the general public health. I don't feel nearly as convinced that some people (or even the cows who died in the field near the Dupont factory) should give their lives for carcinogen-emitting cookware or stain-retardant sofas that simply make life a tiny bit easier. At the very least, I think there should be warnings so that consumers can decide if they want to take that risk.

Is there some universal use of Teflon in prostheses that I am not comprehending? From what I read online, there are many different materials used, and I imagine that if one proved harmful, scientists would quickly come up with a viable replacement. Or is Teflon used in the the rotational area of the prosthesis universally?
