This isn't a popularity contest, tejek. Just because the world isn't behind us does not mean we are wrong.
That's true. However, world opinion is not something that should be ignored. In addition to most of the world, you have nearly half of the American population who disagrees with Bush and agrees with the world. Seems to me with those kinds of numbers a quick reassessment is in order.
On the contrary, Europe is not behind us due in large part to their swelling Muslim populations.
Swelling? What are you talking about? Muslims constitute less than 5% of the German and UK populations. Even in France, the Muslim population is less than 10%. All are statistics from the CIA page.
It's not politically viable for them to be with us, when this is a war against Islamic fundamentalism. They are scared witless. They know that overt participation will turn Europe into a warzone. The U.K. is the only one that is doing what is right despite their own Muslim population.
Scared witless? Last I heard its Muslim Turks in Germany who worry about the German skinheads and not the other way around. In France, Chirac was so scared by the Muslims he insisted on passing a very unpopular [among Muslims] law outlawing scarves on women's heads in public buildings.
It never dawns on the right that the Europeans may know a thing or two about the Muslim world and may be opposing the war in Iraq for reasons other than they are "scared witless", or because there is no financial gain in it for them.
The truth is that Europe has had a lot more experience with Islam over the centuries than we have. Their views have evolved differently......for an example, they have a very different take on the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
To think that Europe and the U.S. would be allies forever is a pipe dream. The more Muslim Europe becomes, the further apart we will grow. The only hope I see is if Muslims fight against the radicalization of their religion. Only then will living side by side be possible with Muslims or Europe be possible.
Is this another vision because you are starting to sound like Bush? <g>
If you think I'm exagerating, read CNN. Zarqawi just declared war on Democracy. Finally, their true colors are showing. Again, I believe this movement is NOT fringe. Muslim extremism is moving mainstream and they stand against everything we hold dear.
This is news to you? He is opposed to everything for which we stand. Having said that, his pronouncement today was in response to Bush's inaugural speech.
To quote CAIR's chairman (CAIR is one of the most prominant Muslim organizations in the U.S.), Omar M. Ahmad (as reported by the San Ramon Valley Herald in July 1998), "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth."
Dang! He sounds just like Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson.
