Who is it that is having a problem with sponge bob? Only religious people. It would be disingenuous to suggest, or to pretend, as you seem to be, that the issue isn't driven solely by religion. These are religious groups having a problem with a media program (because of their group's bible values), and a cartoon character, and the agenda of the people putting out the cartoon. Would I call them fools? No. I don't think that's appropriate, and it most certainly is namecalling. Do I agree with them? No. But I can disagree without calling them anything.

Convoluted logic? I don't think so. If I say people should be called fools if they believe wine can become blood when people drink it, and then say - well "that kind of nonsensical conclusion is independent of one's religious beliefs"- are you going to believe me if I say I'm not talking about a religiously driven belief? Who other than religious folks believe that? Same thing. Convoluted is trying to deny the connection. IMO

On the other hand, if you can show me anyone that is crusading against spongebob who is not religious, and part of a religious group, I'll take back the "only" and change it to most. I was not able to find anyone involved in this who was not part of a religious group.
