Hey, speaking of Luddites, you know they weren't really against technology per se, they were against the HUMAN IMPACTS of technology, loss of handicraft livelihoods and the evils of child labor. That was the central tenet, as I was told in college, and they sought to destroy those technologies that seeming caused people to be dehumanized. I can't say I disagree with that absolutely. Looms are bad things if you are chopping off the fingers of children to run them.

That was also on the "Worst Jobs in History" - the guy or girl who raced around scavenging bits of yarn and whatnot to keep the looms from fouling. If you weren't quick, you became lubricant yourself. I won't buy rugs made in Afghanistan because of child labor practices. Heard recently about Walmart forcing lower prices. The people in the plant were already working from 8am to 2am (yes, 2 AM!) and the foreman says we've got to increase our quota.
