WalMart is controlling rug production in Afghanistan now? That truly is scary. I am so happy I do not shop there. It would be like having the blood of child laborers (and worse) on my hands. I was aware of that definition of Luddite. My revelation about being one came one afternoon at the Renaissance Faire, when I was lying on a pile of straw in a little cottage and listening to a guitar playing. I thought it would be wonderful to live in a simpler time with no street lights or electric motors making noise. Of course I would want penicillin in a flash if I got an infection, so it is all rather illogical, but I just liked it on a sensual basis. And in my own life I had a treadle sewing machine when I was younger and sewed, and I do not use a mixer to bake cookies or cakes, preferring the organic experience of stirring everything by hand.
