Well, you and I might find it acceptable, if not downright admirable and desirable, but the RW Christians calling in were very upset about that nasty little "sexual identity" phrase. They don't believe that gays are a treasure, I guess. I doubt they read the pledge with much of an open mind-- just saw that Sexual Identity thing and KNEW what this was REALLY about. One woman who called in said that she saw it as pushing acceptance of a lifestyle that is just not-- acceptable! When the host pointed out the difference between tolerance and respect and acceptance, she got pretty confused.
Which, when you think about it, is the problem with so many things. People with set beliefs have a really hard time opening themselves enough to be objective and it is so easy to twist things to fit into your conceptions and much more difficult to stretch your mind enough to include differences. When that happens, you have all these pieces lying around chaotically.
There were also calls about when you are born black you are black forever (unless you are Michael Jackson), but you don't HAVE to be gay. Agh. I never last long with talkshows because I start yelling at people. Alone in my car, screaming, at my dashboard.
Dear god. On another thread, I confessed to watching Supernanny. Now I admit I listen to talkshows and converse with the radio. Can I be banned for this proletariat behavior?
