One thing I don't understand is the finding that Tony was betting counter to his recommended positions.

To me that seems like a very hard way to make money, as opposed to frontrunning, which is an easy way to make money. Why would he try to make money in such a difficult manner?

i.e., Tony calls a short on WXYZ, waits for it to dip on short-selling, buys WXYZ, a week later calls a cover on WXYZ and sells on the short-covering spike ... to me that is a very risky and difficult way to make a buck, and I don't see why he would do it
