Well looks like you were right about channel stuffing by the automakers

Something strange is going with the automakers this quarter.

Ford warns on quarter -- but not on year
Something strange is going with the automakers this quarter.

Last week General Motors (GM, news, msgs) said it just sees a profit of "breakeven or better" in the current quarter, which was well below the Reuters Estimates consensus of $1.01 per share. This morning, Ford Motor (F, news, msgs) said it sees a first-quarter profit of 25 to 35 cents per share.

But both companies expect to make up the ground by the end of the year. Ford said it sees a 2005 profit of $1.75 to $1.95 per share, in line with the consensus of $1.87 per share. The question is, with the auto industry still heavily reliant on incentives, can these two companies come through with such a strong finish? Investors think so, with Ford shares gaining 1.38%. GM was up a modest eight cents.
