Well, I'm not quite sure what you are getting at. The fact remains that in every major combat operation that we've set up with Iraqi soldiers leading the way against the insurgents, the Iraqi soldiers have been routed. In addition, the police forces in Iraqi cities have been known to drop their guns and run without firing a shot when insurgents show up. So of course, we're having difficulty pulling our troops out when this type of cowardice is rampant.

At the end of the day, tejek and I both agree that Iraqis have to have the will to fight for their own freedom and build a democracy for themselves. We can only set the stage. We've almost finished setting up the stage. The last act for the U.S. is to leave the Iraqi security forces standing on its own two feet.

Let me ask you this. If you have raised your kids through high school, would you kick them out of the house and cut them off at that point, if you could offord to send them on to college? Or would you ensure they have that college education so they can get started on their own and stand on their own two feet with a reasonable income? By the same token, how can we leave before the job is done in Iraq?

The answer is simple. We can't leave until Iraqi security forces can ensure Iraq's fledgling Democracy has a fighting chance.
